The Movies

I saw The Dark Knight twice. The first time was the midnight showing: fresh with emotion and the momentum of six months' worth of promotion, it delivered in every way possible. Just recently I saw it again, and I was thankful to say, I shuddered and yelled when I should, the joker still creeped me out, and I was still thrown off by Maggie Gyllenhal replacing Katie Holmes.

I hate the way Batman's voice changes while he's in his suit. And the overall feeling of the first movie contrasted severely with the beggining of the first one. The joker, if anything, gets more creepy the more often I see it, and its no wonder why he died in the process of making this movies. But serious, Aaron Eckhart's face was stupid. There wasn't any transition between the story line; yes he lost Rachel, but the story line seriously crept up too fast after that event. I didn't like the fact that in real life, Mr. Batman was accused of hitting his mom and sister. Are you serious? Were they conspiring with the Joker too?

The fact that it is approaching the 600 million dollar mark posted by Titanic still irks me. Titanic is titanic, and Batman is batman. And even though inflation isn't taken into consideration with those comparisons, I don't want to see Titanic overthrown (get it!). Some of my favorite books are fantasy books, but there will never be another Titanic.

On the note of best movies ever made, I am extremely excited to watch Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. Here's a small side note to people who like to approach Harry Potter from the same standpoint with which they would judge, say, No Country for Old Men. Harry Potter isn't adored by 4 billion people around the world because the actors are superp- while many of them are, Harry Potter in general is loved because it is so unlike anything any of us have ever seen. So enjoy it for the experience and shut up! It's magic.

With movie tickets at $10, I would be lying to say that I haven't been tempted to watch two movies for the price of one. That's all I'm going to say. To all theaters: WE CAN'T AFFORD YOU OR YOUR DAMN NASTY FOOD! Some advice- EASE UP. If I could afford a theater I would by one and charge 10 for dinner and a movie. And when that happens, you'll be sorry you didn't listen to me.

I saw The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants II the other day, coincidentally after I had watched Batman (and paid 10 dollars to do so...) It was funny in some parts (mostly because Amber Tamblyn) and sort of sad in others. Casting was done extremely well, as all the actresses seem to compliment eachother in appearance and in attitude (as were probably the characters from the books). And even if Blake Lively isn't enough to get you to watch the movie, Santorini should be. (In case your an idiot, I'm talking about Santorini, Greece, because one of the characters isn't named Santorini).

When I Am Legend broke the record for the biggest three day opener, I hadn't yet seen it. When I actually did a couple days ago, I thought the movie was good...that's it, but I still didn't know how it had taken that record. Will Smith movies are generally universally appealing, but I know there is some hidden force behind this and I plan on finding it out.

This summer's movies were ok...but maybe only because Batman stole the show. But who cares, Harry Potter is only a few months away.
